Anastrozole trial results published

The first analysis of the ATAC (Arimidex, tamoxifen, alone or in combination) trial has been published this week in The Lancet (2002;359:2131). It shows that anastrozole (Arimidex) is effective for the treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone sensitive breast cancer.

Of the women treated with anastrozole, 89.4 per cent were disease free after three years compared with 87.4 per cent of women treated with tamoxifen (hazard ratio 0.83, 95 per confidence interval 0.71–0.96, P=0.013).
