Society's second PhD studentship in ethics is awarded to KeeleThe Royal Pharmaceutical Society has announced that its second PhD studentship in ethics will be based in the School of English and Philosophy at Keele University. The student, once appointed, will be supervised by Dr Angus Dawson, director of the university's Centre for Professional Ethics. The PhD will investigate the nature of ethical dilemmas and medical legal issues confronting pharmacists working in both traditional and innovative areas of practice. Applications from suitably qualified candidates will be invited in the near future. The two studentships are funded by the Society and form a central theme in the five-year research strategy approved by the Society's Council in June 2001. The Society hopes that the work will provide valuable information to support the development and implementation of the principles of modern professional self-regulation in pharmacy. The first studentship (PJ, 27 April, p583) is hosted jointly by the Centre for Public Policy Research at King's College London and the Centre for Practice and Policy at the School of Pharmacy, University of London. Further information about the ethics studentships is available from the Society's practice research manager, Zoe Whittington (tel 020 7572 2276; e-mail zwhittington@rpsgb.org.uk). |
