Pharmacists could handle 300m repeat prescriptions a year

A new Cabinet Office report estimates that up to 80 per cent (300 million) of all repeat prescriptions could be dealt with by community pharmacists.

The report, the second that the Cabinet Office's Regulatory Impact Unit has produced on reducing GP paperwork, says that GPs sign up to 200 repeat prescriptions each every week, representing between 60 and 75 per cent of all prescriptions annually.

Making a difference, reducing burdens on general practitioners — second report, is available on the internet.
