Third wave of medicines management pilots to include primary care trusts

Primary care trusts have been invited to apply to be among the third wave of participants in the national medicines management collaborative programme being run by the National Prescribing Centre (NPC).

As with the first wave of 26 sites and the second wave of 40 sites (PJ, 16 February, p199), a third wave of up to 40 sites will be supported by funding from the Department of Health and by the NPC project team. PCTs chosen for the third wave will be expected to recruit local facilitators to work closely with GPs, pharmacists and primary health care teams to reshape local services so they meet the needs of patients and ensure value for money.

PCTs that intend to apply must let the project team know by 26 July 2002. Full applications must be made by 28 August.
