Scottish departmentNew chairman and new members for Scottish ExecutiveThe Scottish Executive of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society has elected a new chairman and vice-chairman for 2002–03. At a meeting of the executive on 19 June, David Thomson was unanimously elected chairman, succeeding Alison Strath, who has been chairman for the past two years. Angela Timoney was unanimously elected to succeed Mr Thomson as vice-chairman. Mr Thomson is director of pharmacy for Greater Glasgow Primary Care NHS Trust. Miss Timoney is consultant in pharmaceutical care with NHS Tayside. In this year's election of six members of the executive, Professor Claire Mackie and Noel Wicks were elected to replace Edward Mallinson and Ron Shiels, both of whom were unsuccessful in the election. Professor Christine Bond, Rose Marie Parr, Mr Thomson and Miss Timoney were all re-elected. Professor Mackie is professor of pharmaceutical care at Robert Gordon University and head of the Centre for Partnership in Medicines for Health. Mr Wicks is an independent community pharmacist proprietor based at the Campus Pharmacy at the University of Stirling. He has been both president of the British Pharmaceutical Students Association and chairman of the Young Pharmacists Group. Mr Shiels leaves the executive after serving since 1988. Mr Mallinson has served for just two years, having been co-opted in 2000. Of the 4,017 voting papers issued, 980 were returned. The percentage of voting papers returned was 24.4 per cent, compared with 18.6 per cent in 2001 and 20.1 in the recent Council election. Official Notice, p936 |
