Nottingham school of pharmacy shows role of molecules at BBC roadshows
The role of molecules in the daily world is being highlighted at the BBC Tomorrow's World roadshows by a series of short films prepared by a researcher from Nottingham school of pharmacy. Dr Cristina De Matteis, science communication teaching fellow at the school, said that the films, entitled Small Matters, follow a group of friends as they meet up for a meal and drinks and then go on to a dance club. The part played by molecules in smells, flavours and clothing is explained. One of the aims of the films is to counteract common misconceptions about molecular science, including a perceived lack of relevance to everyday life. The films have been funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the BBC and the Open University and produced by Illumina Digital. They are being shown at BBC Tomorrow's World roadshows in Birmingham, London, Cardiff and Glasgow this month. The films, and further information about the science behind them, can be found on the pharmacy section of the University of Nottingham's website. |
