Internet medicines sales to be studied

Trading standards officers in Dundee have received £7,500 from the Department of Trade and Industry in order to search the internet for unlicensed sales of prescription only medicines to the public and to look at how this can be prevented.

The "dotcom chemist" project will be a joint venture between Dundee City Council trading standards department and the Medicine Control Agency. Research will be carried out over six months to identify online pharmacies, the medicines being supplied and compliance with United Kingdom legislation. The project funding includes £1,500 towards making test purchases. A report is to be published in January 2003.
