Department of Health Vacancies Survey (more)

Hospital pharmacist vacancies rise again

Vacancy rates for hospital pharmacists in England are rising again, according to Department of Health figures.

A survey in March found that 6.6 per cent of pharmacist posts had been vacant for at least three months. This compares unfavourably with last year's figure of 5.3 per cent (PJ, 21 July, 2001, p75).

Pharmacy vacancy rates vary across the regions from 4.5 per cent in the North West region to 6.6 per cent in the London region, rising to 10.6 per cent in the Eastern region. The regional figures conceal wide variations between health authorities (HAs) with vacancies in the Trent region ranging from nil in two of its 11 HAs to 44 per cent in Rotherham HA.
