Applications invited for second ethics studentship

Applications are now being invited for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's full-time four-year research studentship in ethics based at the Centre for Professional Ethics, Keele University (PJ, 22 Jun, p891).

The studentship, one of two funded by the Society, is the core element in a project exploring the ethical dilemmas faced by pharmacists in their work. The appointed researcher will be involved in gathering data from pharmacists working in different roles, different working environments and at different stages of their careers. The data will provide the basis for doctoral research. Research training will be provided in both ethical and empirical research methods in the early stages of the project.

The studentship will include funding to cover fees for MRes, MPhil or PhD registration, as well as a stipend at the equivalent level to Medical Research Council funding (£10,000 for 2001–02).

Applicants must hold a good honours degree and/or a masters degree in a relevant subject. Previous experience of research work in ethics, social science, pharmacy or a related area would be desirable. A professional background in pharmacy or a related professional field may be advantageous but is not necessary.

Full details of the studentship can be found on the professional ethics section of the university's website. Details of the application procedures for postgraduate study are available from the same website (www.keele.ac.uk/postgraduate) or by contacting the Postgraduate Office, Department of Academic Affairs, Keele University, Staffordshire ST5 5BG (tel 01782 583726; fax 01782 632343; e-mail m.macleod@keele.ac.uk). The closing date for applications is 2 August.
