Pfizer to fund head of Kent and Greenwich universities' Medway school of pharmacyPfizer is to fund the post of head of the new Medway school of pharmacy in an agreement worth £500,000 over five years. The school will have its first intake of students next year (PJ, 5 May 2001, p608). The agreement will cover salary and other administrative costs, but not a full-scale research programme. The post will be advertised shortly. The Medway school of pharmacy is a joint venture between the Universities of Kent and Greenwich. It is to be based at their shared Medway campus at Chatham Maritime south east of London. The school is currently going through the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's accreditation process. Professor Rick Trainor and Professor David Melville, vice-chancellors of the Universities of Greenwich and Kent, respectively, said in a statement that the agreement with Pfizer built existing links with the universities and was a boost for the school and the profession of pharmacy. The two universities and Mid-Kent College were recently awarded £4m by the Higher Education Funding Council for England to underpin the Medway campus, which will house the new school. |
