Valsartan cost-effective for HF

Researchers have calculated that average direct treatment costs over three years were almost £600 lower for heart failure (HF) patients who took valsartan (Diovan), but not ACE inhibitors, in addition to their other heart failure treatments. They conclude this has important implications for clinical practice because up to 54 per cent of HF patients cannot take ACE inhibitors because of side effects or other reasons.

This trial update was presented at the European Society of Cardiology congress in Berlin earlier this month, which The Journal attended courtesy of Merck Sharp & Dohme
