Funding received for new projects in Pembrokeshire

Pembrokeshire Pharmacy Forum has received £4,960 from Pembrokeshire Local Health Group's clinical governance budget to give community pharmacists protected time for continuing profession development.

Chris Martin, chairman of Pembrokeshire Pharmacy Forum, told The Journal that community pharmacists will be given one day a year of protected time to plan their clinical governance and CPD requirements for the coming year. Where necessary, assistance will be given by a member of the LHG's pharmacy team.

The forum has also received funds to develop clinical governance through standard operating procedures and to carry out an audit, with local general practitioners, of medicines prescribed with instructions to be taken "as directed". In addition, £500 has been allocated to develop support networks for locum pharmacists and GPs.

Medicines management The prescribing support team at Pembrokeshire LHG has been allocated £6,000 for a community pharmacist to work as a medicines management pharmacist at Neyland surgery and £3,900 for a medicines management pharmacist at Saundersfoot medical centre.
