Society summary

Census response approaches 50 per cent

By 16 September, nearly 20,000 of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's 44,500 members — about 45 per cent — had responded to the Society's pharmacy workforce census (PJ, 31 August, p302–03).

The Society’s practice research division says that it is pleased with the response so far but hopes that those members who have not yet completed and returned their census forms will do so promptly.

The purpose of the census is to allow the Society to check the information it already holds and to determine pharmacists’ ethnic origins, current work situation, area of practice, level of education and membership of other health professional registers. The results of the census will be important to the Society’s work as a professional and regulatory body in the areas of workforce planning, education, research, developing the register and implementing race relations legislation.

Completed census forms should be returned in the Freepost envelope provided (no stamp required). Reminder letters will be sent out shortly to those members who have not yet responded.

Any members who have not yet received their census form or who require further information about the census should contact Zoe Whittington, Research Manager, Practice Research Division (e-mail zwhittington@rpsgb.org.uk; tel 020 7572 2276).
