Professor Graham Buckton chosen as Science Chairman for 2003Professor Graham Buckton, FRPharmS, professor of pharmaceutics at the School of Pharmacy, University of London, is to be the new Science Chairman for the British Pharmaceutical Conference 2003 in Harrogate. Professor Buckton joined the staff of King's College London as lecturer in pharmacy in 1984. In 1989 he moved to the School of Pharmacy, University of London. He has a large research group of postgraduate and postdoctoral scientists, whose research relates to the amorphous state, powder processing, surface science, solid oral dosage forms, inhalation drug delivery and modified release dosage forms. He has become recognised for his use of isothermal microcalorimetry and vapour sorption techniques to assess the physical properties of materials. Professor Buckton has received the Pfizer award, the British Pharmaceutical Conference Science Medal and the Stig Sunner Award (for "outstanding work in thermochemistry and thermal analysis" from the US Calorimetry Conference). He is editor of the International Journal of Pharmaceutics and on the editorial boards of European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, PharmSci and Pharmaceutical Science and Technology Today. He is a past chairman of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Group of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, a member of the Society's Science Committee and a member of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Scientists Committee. He is also a member of the Chemistry, Pharmacy and Standards Subcommittee of the Committee on Safety of Medicines. |
