New smallpox vaccine promising

A smallpox vaccine in development, ACAM1000, provides protective immunogenicity within 10 days of vaccination, phase I trial results show.

Acambis, developing the vaccine, says that protective immunogenicity was seen within this period in all 30 subjects assigned to receive the trial vaccine. Data were presented at a meeting of the G7 Global Health Security Action Group held in Langen, Germany, last month.
