UK Medicines Information

The 28th annual UK Medicines Information conference was held at Chester College from 19 to 21 September. The theme was “Perspectives in patient safety”. Dr Simon Wills, head of Wessex Drug and Medicines Information Centre, reports

Mr Golightly told participants that the UKMi website had been redesigned and many new features added since its inception last year. It is available at www.ukmi.nhs.uk and the contents include:

  • A database of frequently asked questions
  • Appraisals of new medicines and medicines in development (with the National Prescribing Centre)
  • One stop reference shop — a guide to medicines appraisals and guidelines from the literature or health care bodies in British National Formulary category order
  • Horizon scanning (products in research, patent expiries for medicines, changes to SPCs)
  • News related to medicines and health care (registration for free daily e-mail possible)
  • Index to national and international guidelines on disease management
  • Toolkits to assist with the implementation of national service frameworks
  • Assistance with commencing or understanding health care research
  • Advice on legal and ethical aspects of information provision (with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee)
