Boots’s Irish fine

Boots The Chemists in Ireland has been fined for charging customers more than displayed prices when they took items to the tills to pay for them. The prosecution was ordered by the Irish consumer affairs director Carmel Foley following complaints to her office by the public.Test purchases at the store by inspectors confirmed the complaint and the prosecution was launched following unsuccessful talks between Ms Foley’s office and the company. Boots pleaded guilty to four counts of charging higher prices at the checkout than those on display and was fined e2,400 plus €300 costs.

After the case, Boots said that the discrepancies were down to human error.
