Nominations sought for BPC 2003 science awardsThe Royal Pharmaceutical Societys science secretariat is seeking nominations for the three 2003 British Pharmaceutical Conference science awards the Conference science medal, the GlaxoSmithKline international achievement award and the AstraZeneca industrial achievement award. The Conference science medal is open to scientists from anywhere in the world who are under 35 years of age on March 31, 2003, who work in a pharmaceutical or allied discipline in industry or academia, who have a proven record of independent research and whose published work shows outstanding promise. The GlaxoSmithKline award recognises a recent substantial advance in the application of scientific knowledge within the pharmaceutical sciences. The AstraZeneca award is given for the advancement of the pharmaceutical sciences or for services to the pharmaceutical industry. In each case, nomination may be made either by the scientist concerned or by others on their behalf. Each award consists of a cheque for several hundred pounds and a commemorative presentation. The awards will be made during the British Pharmaceutical Conference in Harrogate in September 2003. The winners of the GSK and AZ awards will each be expected to give a lecture on their work during the conference. The winner of the science medal will be invited to present a lecture at the 2004 conference. For all three awards, applications or nominations should be sent to the

Society, 1 Lambeth High Street, London SE1 7JN. For the GSK and AZ awards
the closing date is 30 November. For the science medal, it is 31 March
