Society seeks practice research medallist for 2003

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is inviting nominations or applications for its 2003 British Pharmaceutical Conference practice research medal.

The award, sponsored by Chemist & Druggist magazine, is intended to recognise individuals aged up to 45 years of age who have made a significant contribution to the field of pharmacy practice research and have the potential to become a leader in the field.

The winner of the medal will receive a cheque for £1,000 and will be required to deliver a 50-minute lecture at the 2003 British Pharmaceutical Conference in Harrogate. The lecture should be based primarily on the applicant’s own research but should also draw on relevant published work from related fields including health policy.

An applicants does not necessarily have to be based in a school of pharmacy and need not be a pharmacist. International applicants are welcome.

The Society’s practice research adjudicating panel will review applications in February 2003 and invite short-listed candidates to submit their lecture title, an outline of the research areas to be included in the lecture, topics to be covered and a statement of how their research will contribute to knowledge in relation to health care generally and pharmacy practice specifically. A curriculum vitae detailing publications, professional and academic record (including peer review experience and significant grants held, for example) will also be required. The closing date for full applications will be the end of April 2003 and the successful applicant will be notified in May.

Applications or nominations, accompanied by a CV and a short supporting statement (up to two sides of A4). should be sent by 31 December to Cathryn Andrews in the Society’s practice research adjudicating secretariat (e-mail candrews@rpsgb.org.uk).

Previous medal winners include Dr Felicity Smith (1999), Professor Judy Cantrill (2000), Dr Carmel Hughes (2001) and Dr Janie Sheridan (2002).
