Roger Odd relinquishes his position at the Society

Roger Odd has relinquished his position as head of professional and scientific support at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society after nearly 12 years’ involvement with practice, professional and public relations issues.

Mr Odd's departure follows a slow convalescence after major surgery earlier in the year. He is to work as a consultant within pharmacy, and has agreed to continue with some work for the Society on a freelance basis.

Mr Odd joined the Society's staff in November 1990 as head-designate of the practice division and took over as head when Bruce Rhodes retired in January 1991. Having previously gained media experience over several years as a branch press officer and regional communications officer, Mr Odd also succeeded Mr Rhodes as the Society's main media spokesman, being frequently interviewed about pharmacy issues on national and local television and radio.

When the Society was restructured in 1998, Mr Odd moved to the new Public Affairs Directorate as head of professional and scientific support. In this capacity he contributed to the Society's work in a number of areas, including management of the British Pharmaceutical Conference and support for the science secretariat. In addition, he was involved with many aspects of membership activity, including looking after the branch network. He also continued in his role as a Society spokesman.

Before joining the staff from a managerial position with Boots the Chemists, Mr Odd had served as a member of the Society’s Council from 1977 to 1980.
