Pneumovax supply problem

Aventis Pasteur MSD is experiencing problems meeting demand for its pneumococcal vaccine Pneumovax II. This follows a 40 per cent increase in demand for the vaccine in the United Kingdom in September this year compared with that for last year.

A spokesman for the company explained that the increase is because of the introduction of recommendations to vaccinate all persons aged 65 years and over in Northern Ireland and Scotland.
