The Journal

Unconvincing front cover picture

From Mr R. W. Selfe, MRPharmS

Having had a lifelong interest in meteorology I was fascinated by the front cover picture on your issue of 2 November. It appears to depict a tropical storm in the southern hemisphere, as the spiralling clouds run in a clockwise direction. The shape and colouring of features outside the spiral look somewhat unconvincing. Perhaps you would be kind enough to say whether it is a genuine satellite image, a computer generated depiction or a clever mock-up in soapsuds or expanded polystyrene.

R. W. Selfe
Benfleet, Essex

The picture library from which we sourced the image described it as "a satellite image of a hurricane".
