Cannabis medicines on trackGW Pharmaceuticals announced positive preliminary results for its cannabis-based medicines from four phase III trials this week. The company now intends to submit an application for regulatory approval to the Medicines Control Agency and hopes to launch its first cannabis-based prescription medicine in 2003. The unpublished results show significant improvements in pain relief, sleep disturbance and spasticity for patients with multiple sclerosis who were treated with GW’s whole plant medicinal cannabis extract rather than with placebo, the company says. |
