Salt intake levels for children

Draft recommendations on safe salt intake levels, including those for children, have been issued by the Food Standards Agency. They suggest that infants under seven months should consume less than 1g of salt per day.

Recommended intake levels for older infants and children range from 1g per day to 5g per day depending on age. Current advice is that adults should consume no more than 6g of salt per day.
