WHO identifies global priorities

The World Health Organization has highlighted 10 factors that it considers to be the most globally important risks to human health. These are

  1. being underweight
  2. unsafe sex
  3. hypertension
  4. smoking
  5. alcohol consumption
  6. iron deficiency
  7. exposure to smoke from solid fuels
  8. high cholesterol levels
  9. obesity
  10. unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene

The WHO World Health Report 2002, available on the WHO website, says bold policies will be needed to tackle these risk factors.
