Low-dose doxycycline for the heartA sub-antimicrobial dose of doxycycline could be used to modulate inflammation in acute coronary syndromes. Researchers randomised 50 patients to receive doxycycline 20mg or placebo twice daily for six months and found that levels of C-reactive protein and interleukin-6 (markers of inflammation) were reduced by 46 per cent and 34 per cent, respectively, in the doxycycline group. |
