Replica leech jars now available by mail order
The popularity of the replica leech jars offered by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's museum has led to the establishment of a dedicated mail order service to make their purchase easier. When the hand-finished replicas were launched in September (PJ, 14 September, p377) the Society was flooded with orders. The first consignment sold out within two weeks and further supplies had to be commissioned. The jars — copied from a 19th century original in the Society's collection — cost £50 each. They can now be sent anywhere in the United Kingdom for an additional postage and packing cost of £19 (which covers up to five jars sent to the same address). Orders for the jars should be sent with payment to: Museum of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (Sales), 1 Lambeth High Street, London SE1 7JN. An order form can be downloaded from the museum section of the Society's website. Alternatively, the jars may be purchased from the library at the Society's headquarters. Also available from the library (but not by mail order) are replica drug storage jars (£75) and syrup jars (£105). Other museum items for sale include packs of greetings cards and postcards bearing images from the museum's collections, as well as three pharmacy history books illustrated by images from the collections. The cards and books can be purchased in person from the library or by mail order from the museum. Examples of the museum merchandise are on display in the reception area of the Society's headquarters and within the library. Photographs can be found on the Society's website. Further information is also available from the museum office (tel 020 7572 2210; e-mail: museum@rpsgb.org.uk). To guarantee receipt of mail order goods in time for Christmas, the museum must received completed orders by 6 December. |
