Ban on anorectics overturned in courtA European Commission ban on anorectic drugs has been overturned by the European Court of Justice. The commission withdrew the licences for products containing a number of amphetamine-like drugs in March 2000 on safety grounds (PJ, 15 April 2000, p572). Later in the year the court ordered that the licences be reinstated pending a full ruling on applications by their manufacturers. Now the court has ruled that the licences be reinstated because the ban was based on scientific evidence that had been taken into account when the licences were originally granted. |
