Heart failure patch

A patch containing stem cells from bone marrow could be used to prevent heart failure.

Researchers transplanted the patch directly on to the infarct-damaged area of hearts of six pigs. After three weeks, ventricular wall thickness had increased in the left ventricles.

Data were presented at the American Heart Association scientific sessions held in Chicago last month.
