Chairman for new regulatory agencyProfessor Alasdair Breckenridge has been appointed chairman-designate of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). The agency will be formed in April 2003 through a merger of the Medicines Control Agency and the Medical Devices Agency. Professor Breckenridge is chairman of the Committee on Safety of Medicines, a post he will relinquish in April next year. He will be working between two and three days a week for the MHRA until then, concentrating on the appointment of its chief executive and its new board, which will include external members as non-executives. |
