CPP coat of arms "step to royal status"
A grant of arms has been made to the College of Pharmacy Practice by The Lord Lyon King of Arms. Accepting the grant in Edinburgh on 3 December, CPP chairman Dr Angela Alexander said that the grant marked a historic occasion for the college and was a landmark on the journey towards the goal of achieving royal status. Guests were welcomed to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's house at York Place, Edinburgh, by Dr Steven Kayne, chairman of the College of Pharmacy Practice in Scotland, and Ian Simpson, chief executive of the CPP. The Lord Lyon King of Arms, Mr Robin Blair, explained that he was empowered by Acts of Parliament of 1672 and 1867 to grant arms on behalf of the sovereign to "virtuous and well deserving persons". Mr Blair described the new coat of arms as a shield divided diagonally by a bar with a balance in the top half to represent the importance of law and accuracy to pharmacy practice, while in the bottom section there was an open book to symbolise learning. In the diagonal band there was a foxglove to recall the origins of medicinal plants. The CPP benzene ring logo was also represented. The new CPP motto is Semper ad praestantia always towards excellence. |
