Christmas miscellany

The Beecham's hymn book story continues ...

From Mrs A. Hunt, MRPharmS

I have it on good authority, namely the 1955–57 Brighton School of Pharmacy rugby coach trips, that the full version of the Beecham's hymn goes as follows:

Hark the Herald Angels sing
Beecham's Pills are just the thing
Moves ye gently meek and mild
Two for an adult, one for a child.

Regular administration,
Just the thing for constipation,
How can man to Art aspire,
If his soul is not on fire?

Hark the Herald Angels sing
Beecham's Pills are just the thing.

Incidentally, when I was a child my mother would send me to "Mr Beck, the chemist" for three "screws" of Beecham's Pills — each screw of paper containing two pills. I believe they cost one penny.

Ann Hunt
Knebworth, Hertfordshire
