African teaching prize for pharmacist

A pharmacist who lecturers at the Robert Gordon University school of pharmacy in Aberdeen has been awarded £4,950 to help fund teaching for staff and undergraduates at the school of pharmacy, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

Sandra Hutchinson received the Quality of Life Award from the Association of Commonwealth Universities. She told The Journal: "The money will be used to develop teaching resources specifically for Tanzania and a member of staff from the university in Tanzania will be funded to come to Robert Gordon University for further teaching and practice experience."

Mrs Hutchinson and four pharmacy students from Aberdeen will also be going to Tanzania for two weeks to provide teaching. There will also be evening meetings to encourage pharmacists working in Dar Es Salaam to give more health care advice to patients.
