IPMI says health before commerce

Patients' needs and nothing else should drive the distribution of community pharmacies, the Institute of Pharmacy Management International (IPMI) has said.

In a statement sent to the chief pharmaceutical officers for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland the IPMI says: "Community pharmacies should be distributed in such a way that serves the best interests of patients. Any method used to ensure that consumers have convenient access to the services of community pharmacies should be driven primarily by the public's health needs and the requirement for community pharmacy to deliver its part of the NHS plan."
