UK medicines sales up in 2002

Sales of medicines in the United Kingdom grew by 10 per cent to $10.8bn (£6.9bn) in the year to December 2002 — the biggest growth in Europe — according to figures from IMS Health. The UK regained its position as Europe's third largest market.

World sales grew by 7 per cent to $275.8bn, of which $154bn were in the United States.

The world's best-selling drugs were Lipitor (atorvastatin), Zocor (simvastatin), Losec (omeprazole), Norvasc/Istin (amlodipine) and Ogastro/Zoton (lansoprazole).
