What about dispensing doctors?

From Mr J. Harrison, MRPharmS

Regarding the questionnaire dealing with the introduction of mandatory continuing professional development, surely if one becomes "unlicensed" to practise it is pointless to remain on the Register of Pharmaceutical Chemists.

For most involved in academic or industrial pursuits, their pharmacy degree would suffice and the semi-retired would either grasp the nettle of ongoing learning and assessment or fully retire gracefully. Also, while pharmacists’ abilities to dispense medicines are to be regularly recorded and reviewed, what, I wonder, will be done to monitor "rural" dispensing by doctors, whose activities in this department are completely unburdened by any mandatory control?

Julien Harrison
Braunton, Devon
