Scots MPs urged to lobby Cabinet group

Pharmacists in Scotland have been urged to ask their members of Parliament to try to influence the Cabinet committee that will decide how to respond to the Office of Fair Trading's pharmacy report.

The final response lies with the Cabinet’s Economic Affairs, Productivity and Competitiveness Committee, which is made up of 22 senior ministers.

Pharmacy regulations are a devolved matter falling within the purview of the Scottish Parliament, but the Scottish Pharmaceutical General Council says that it will be difficult for the Scottish Executive to sustain its position if it decides to adopt a different approach from the rest of the United Kingdom. The Scottish Executive is still to make its decision on the OFT report and an election is to be held in Scotland on 1 May.
