Healthy eating "5-a-day" logo launched by DoH
A logo designed to remind people about the benefits of eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day has been launched by the Department of Health. Food manufacturers will be able to apply for a licence to display the logo on packaging of food products that meet strict nutritional criteria, a spokeswoman for the Department said. Such foods include fresh, chilled, frozen, canned and dried fruit and vegetables that do not have any added sugar, salt or fat. To carry the logo, foods must contain at least one portion of fruit or vegetables. A "portion indicator" will also appear on packaging to show people how many portions of fruit or vegetables are in a typical serving (the maximum number of portions that can be claimed per serving is two). Details of foods that count towards the Department's five-a-day programme, along with definitions of portions, are available on the Department's website. |
