Moxifloxacin launched

Moxifloxacin (Avelox), a new fluoroquinolone has been launched by Bayer for the treatment of community-acquired-pneumonia (CAP) and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis (AECB). It is given as a single daily oral dose of 400mg. Bayer says Avelox is as effective as standard therapies and is ideal monotherapy for non-severe CAP. It adds that Avelox has higher clinical success rates than standard therapy for AECB (see p472).
