Advice will cascade in event of terrorism

Specific advice about what pharmacists should do in the event of a terrorist threat has not yet been issued at a national level.

However, a Department of Health spokesman told The Journal this week that responsibility for issuing such guidance currently falls to strategic health authorities.

Maria Kane, communications manager at North West London Strategic Health Authority, explained that emergency planning is co-ordinated through each strategic health authority's lead primary care trust.

"There is a robust system of communications for us to get in touch with pharmacists very quickly," she said. Information will be cascaded to pharmacists through the PCT in a co-ordinated manner when necessary, she added.
