Corona virus main cause of SARS

A new virus belonging to the Coronaviridae family is likely to be the main cause of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), researchers suggest.

They studied 50 patients with SARS from five separate outbreak clusters and found evidence of the virus in 90 per cent of patients. The new corona virus was not present in any patients belonging to a control group.

The research is published on The Lancet’s website (www.thelancet.com).
