PSNC calls for fuller Charter consultationMembers of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society should have been consulted before any decision was taken to seek a new Royal Charter for the Society, the PSNC has said. It also wants consultation on a draft charter after it has been considered by the Council. At their April meeting, PSNC members were unclear whether the exercise currently being undertaken by the Society was true consultation because there were no proposals from the Council on the table. They say that there should be a proper, better, fuller and more informed view on whether there is a need for a new Royal Charter. "PSNC understands that the paper sent out with the new charter proposal does not reflect a considered Council decision on the proposed principles," Mrs Sharpe said. "The committee discussed at length whether or not this constituted consultation on proposals." A main concern of the PSNC is that the principal object of the existing Charter regarding promoting the interests of members in the practice of the profession of pharmacy should remain unchanged and should not be qualified by any test of public interest. |
