MRSA in "clean" hospitals

Out of 40 hospitals reported to have the most cases of MRSA (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) none was classed as "dirty" under the Government's clean hospital programme, according to Liberal Democrat health spokesman Paul Burstow. Mr Burstow suggests that the clean hospital programme is giving the public a false sense of security. "The programme covers 19 different standards of which only one is about cleanliness and none is about the control of infection," he said.
