Period-of-treatment fee

Time to stop co-operating with DoH

From Mr D. H. Patel, MRPharmS

I note that the Department of Health has refused to reinstate the period-of-treatment fee as from April (PJ, 19 April, p533). No doubt the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee will once again claim that it tried very hard but unfortunately failed to get the suspension lifted and the reasons and excuses it will give will make no sense to anybody.

We hear the same old story each year from the PSNC. I think it is about time that we stopped co-operating with the Department of Health in implementing the changes it is seeking to "modernise" community pharmacy.

Dineshchandra Patel
Luton, Bedfordshire
