Waymade owners set up drug company

The owners of Waymade Healthcare, Vijay and Bhikhu Patel, have established a pharmaceutical company, Amdipharm.

The new company will develop and launch new products as well as taking over the marketing of established products. The aim will be to target smaller market segments such as palliative or critical care. The company's first new products will be an anti-emetic and a sustained-release morphine formulation. Amdipharm will market Diconal (dipipanone), Cyclimorph (morphine and cyclizine) and Valoid (cyclizine).

The Patel brothers have built Waymade into a business with a turnover of £273m. Vijay Patel, who is a pharmacist, opened his first pharmacy in 1975.
