Boots fined £15,000 after worker is injured

Boots The Chemists has been fined more than £15,000 after pleading guilty to breaches of safety regulations at its Petty Cury branch in Cambridge that led to one member of staff being injured by a unit she was trying to move.

Linda Balaam was off work for eight weeks after one of her fingers was crushed between a doorway and container she was trying to pull on to the shop floor before trading began.

Cambridge Magistrates Court was told of other similar accidents at the store. The branch was undergoing both a store refit and staff restructuring at the time of the accident. Boots was fined £12,000 with costs of £3,357. Ms Balaam has already been compensated by the company.
