House of Commons Health Select Committee: Foundation trusts (PDF 370K)
Hansard report (more)

Foundation trusts will distort the NHS

Foundation trusts will alter the distribution of hospital services to the detriment of areas where foundation status takes longer to achieve.

That is the conclusion of the House of Commons Health Select Committee. Early implementers will gain resources and attract the best staff to the detriment of other hospitals, the committee says in a report (PDF 370K).

The Government responded to the publication of the report on 6 May by announcing an extra £200m to be targeted at poorly performing hospitals to help them raise their standards to those necessary for foundation status.
