Combination for osteoporosis

Combined treatment with hormone replacement therapy and alendronate (Fosamax) is more effective than either therapy alone in preventing bone loss in postmenopausal women, a study has shown.

After three years of treatment, bone mineral density was significantly greater in women treated with combination therapy than either treatment alone. But the study also showed that alendronate monotherapy was more effective than HRT alone (JAMA 2003;289:2525).
