PSNC: Control of entry revision proposal (PDF 90K)

Pharmacy costs survey to start on 16 June

A full survey of the costs of providing the current National Health Service pharmaceutical service is to be held during the week 16–22 June.

The survey will involve 470 pharmacy contractors in England and Wales completing forms to quantify their costs in terms of staff, property, other overheads and head office costs where appropriate. Forms will be completed by 300 independents, 160 multiples and 10 health centre pharmacies. Each will receive £200 per set of completed forms. The forms are to be returned to the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee by 18 July. The data will be collated and used by the PSNC, the Department of Health and the NHS Confederation in order to cost out the new pharmacy contract currently under discussion.

Control of entry The PSNC has submitted a proposal (PDF 90K) for revision of the control of entry regulations in England. NHS and patients' interests should take precedence over competition, it says.
