Gill Hawksworth elected as President, Alison Ewing as Vice-President and Linda Stone as TreasurerThe Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society has elected Dr Gill Hawksworth as President of the Society in succession to Marshall Davies, who has been President for the past two years. Alison Ewing has been elected to succeed Dr Hawksworth as Vice-President. Linda Stone has been elected Treasurer in succession to Kirit Patel, who was unsuccessful in this year's Council election. The election took place at a meeting of the Council on 4 June.
Dr Hawksworth was the sole candidate for the post of President and Mrs Stone was the only candidate for the post of Treasurer. In the election of the Vice-President, Ms Ewing faced competition from Pat Hoare and Wally Dove. She attained the required overall majority of votes in a single ballot, gaining 13 votes to Mrs Hoare's nine and Mr Dove's one. It is the first time in the history of the Society that all three elected Officer posts have been filled by women. Mrs Stone is also the first woman ever to be elected as Treasurer. Speaking after her election, Dr Hawksworth said: "I thank the Council for their support and confidence in electing me to the office of President. It is a great honour. "The next 12 months will be a significant watershed for our profession. The Council has much to deliver, not least communicating with the members and taking them with us. I look forward to working with Council colleagues as a team to help ensure that the trust and confidence placed in pharmacy by the Government and public is maintained and that we can lay the foundations for our future as a modern day professional and regulatory body." |
